With the stereo power amplifiers Technics SE-A1/A3/A5 Technics offered in 1979 a completely new concept in the development of DC-circuit technique for power amplifiers.

The 19kg heavy " NewClassA " power amplifier provides 160 watts per channel and sounds amazing . The uncompromising clear design with front-filling power display instruments behind thick real glass fitted into a solid aluminum panel was successfully and copied by many manufacturers more or less.

16 Axial bulbs were installed in order to obtain a homogeneous illumination of the giant VU meter front. I have replaced the bulbs completely.

Technics has this model series from 1981 almost reissued in 12 months rhythm with cosmetically adjusted to every trend.

Today, after 35 years of Technics / Panasonic is still using this design for certain audio product lines.

Pioneer HPM-700 Speakers

The Pioneer HPM-700 is a high fidelity, 4-way, 4-speaker Bass-Reflex loudspeaker system designed by Bart Locanthi and his team of ex-JBL engineers, manufactured in Japan for the Pioneer Electronic Corporation from 1980 to 1983. Many still exist in complete working order, with all original parts, due to the speaker being engineered for endurance, reliability and longevity.

The HPM-900, were released along with the HPM-700. The HPM-700 was comparable to the HPM-60: a smaller HPM-900 with a 10 inch woofer. The tweeter and mid-range drivers on the HPM-900 and HPM-700 contained individual metal grills to protect the cones. These two speakers featured another new supertweeter design – one that more closely matched the 180 degree projection of the HPM-100. The woofers were constructed with graphite modulus – a stiffer composite material, and had foam surrounds. Also like the HPM-40 the cabinet was covered with vinyl instead of veneer

HPM stands for “High Polymer Molecular”, in reference to its then newly-developed high polymer molecular film supertweeter, a design that is used to convert electrical energy into sound to a degree that had previously only been theory. It is damped by elastic materials to prevent the deterioration of its best characteristics, and eliminates excessive harmonic distortion. It is housed in a plastic case, with the film (and grille) shaped semi-cylindrically in order to project the sound all 180 degrees around the front of the speaker. The HPM super-tweeter design has no dome, magnet, voice coils, or any moving parts at all. The frequency response of this driver ranges up to 25 kHz, exceeding the capacity of the human ear.

Today, after 35 years of Technics / Panasonic is still using this design for certain audio product lines. Now Panasonic is using cheap looking plastic glass surrounded by a mostly dark colored plastic front.

History
David’s design concept was inspired by old clocks and watches from the 17th and 18th century. David had often asked this question many times over, why put something of engineering elegance into a black case or even worst, into a wooden case, that looked as if it had been made down in somebody’s garden shed. In fact Transcriptors started the trend to expose all the components so that they could be viewed from all angles. Manufactured from aluminum and acrylic to very high tolerances, tested, the end result always being a highly polished, highly accurate turntable. Designed and built with the skill of an 18th century clock maker, the turntables made for a very satisfying sight indeed.

LUXMAN L-501s Integrated Amplifier

The Integrated Amplifier of L series which introduced the technology developed with the high-end model.

In order to send out the stable energy to a speaker, the Oide power transistor and the large-sized heat sink are adopted.
Moreover, the efficient large-sized EI core power transformer and the mass capacitor excellent in the instant charge-and-discharge property were carried, and the effective output of 70W+70W has been obtained.

The high slew rate CSSC (Complementary Single Stagger Circuit) super-wide band amplifying circuit which was excellent in the instantaneous power of sound in the wide band is adopted as an amplifier circuitry.

ROM optical disk (Optimized Dual) beta circuit is carried.
It was used in order to secure the stability of the direct-current area of amplifier, but by the way of inserting DC servo amplifier etc. in a feedback loop, the feedback of general DC had become a cause by which the tones for every band differed in order to put in a process which is different only to DC area.
In L-501s, though the dependency to a corrective network is reduced by improving the nakedness property of a circuitry and a direct-current region and each alternating-current region are considered as another feedback, the unification of the tone covering the stability and all the play bands of a circuitry is realized, without using DC servo amplifier.

The STAR circuit original with a Lux is adopted, sharing of the feed line in a circuitry or an earth line is abandoned, and the loop which became independent, respectively consists of connecting the whole of each line with each block or a signal path directly from a reference point.
This removes the variation factor of the amplification reference point by the cross interferencee between each circuitry, or transition of the signal current, and the cleaner music play is aimed at.

Two lines are carried in the speaker terminal as a bi-wiring interconnection correspondence.
Moreover, the vice type screw type which holds a cable firmly is adopted, and the banana plug is also supported.

The input only for man month is carried and phone amplifier is built in.

The motor drive scheme is adopted as a volume and an input selector.

Functionalities, such as a loudness, a Subsonic Filter, a feather r eggplant control, a mono-switchpoint, and a tone control, are carried.

Professional Turntable Commonwealth Electronics 12D

The Commonwealth Electronics 12D was the last model made by the company and following the take-over by Philips in the mid 1960's the 12D stayed in production till the 1970's. There were two versions of the 12D the 12/D3 and 12/D4 which had three and four speeds respectively. There is a neutal position between each speed selection which allows easy cueing. This turntable uses an idler wheel between the motor and the inside edge of the platter but unlike many turntables of this type a solenoid is used to engage the idler wheel while the power is on. This means that it is not possible for a flat to develop on the idler wheel if a particular speed is selected while the power is off.
